Welcome to DarkSky Olympic Peninsula! We are a group of dedicated advocates and lovers of dark skies here in northwestern Washington. We have made a lot of progress on our way to becoming a chapter of DarkSky International that meets the unique needs of our corner of the state. We exist to protect our natural night skies with advocacy, outreach, and conservation.

Light pollution is a growing problem but one that is both preventable and reversible. Light pollution disrupts wildlife and ecosystems, impacts human health, wastes money and energy, and blocks our view, study, and contemplation of the natural night sky.

And we need YOU! If you are a lover of natural dark skies and want to preserve what we have and embrace positive changes for the future, please join our movement. We need interested people to help in our education and advocacy efforts- anyone willing to give a little time can have a role in our group.

This blog will post updates and reports from the board and members about ways to help with the mission of protecting our natural night skies on the Olympic Peninsula. Many thanks for your support!

Seeing stars is a birthright, one of the major features of living on Earth, and the last islands of visibility are shrinking, their edges eaten away by human-made light.” – Craig Childs, The Wild Dark
